Erika Davis of Salt
Springs in Florida had a typical visual encounter. Early in the
morning of 12 April 1993 her brother arrived with bad news. Their
father had died during the night, at the age of just 50, and seemingly
whilst in good health. His heart simply stopped beating.
Erika's husband then asked her about her dream. She was puzzled, but
it was dancing on the edge of her memory and just out of reach. He
reminded her that she had cried out in the early hours as if talking
to someone by the window. Her worried spouse had gone to check if
there was a burglar but was overcome with terror and quickly returned
to bed. Erika had by then stopped talking and had fallen asleep again.
This instantly brought back full recall of what had happened. Her
father had appeared at her bedside, called her name and said he had to
go. She resisted at first, then said "all right" and looked at him by
the window. He was dressed as normal. Then he stopped talking and
vanished. The time appears to have coincided with the hour of death as
set by the coroner, making this a classic case of a crisis apparition.
Erika's father appeared to her at the time his life suddenly and
unexpectedly ended many miles away.
