Want to Impress Your Ex? Commit Arson

MINNESOTA - Police chief John Tuchek desperately wanted to impress his ex-girlfriend in the hopes of winning her back.

What's one way to impress someone? Be a hero. Tuchek decided to start a small fire by his ex-girlfriend's apartment and then was going to put it out and rescue her. But plans went awry. He set fire to boxes at the back of the apartment, but the fire engulfed a shop, two historic buildings, and the homes of 10 people. Tuchek reported the fire to firefighters and ran upstairs to save his ex-girlfriend. He now faces nine counts of arson and six counts of criminal damage; Tuchek quit the force before his court appearance. County Sheriff Jim Connolly summed up the events: "You put the fire out, you are a hero and she comes back to you or they see you in a better light. Unfortunately, this fire got out of control and quite a disaster resulted."

Unattended Toddler Runs Over Neighbour with Parents' Car

A  NEW ZEALAND - A three-year-old New Zealand boy climbed into his parents car and knocked it out of gear, causing the vehicle to roll down a hill. Neighbour Terry Mattsen was mowing his lawn when he noticed the approaching car, but he didn't give it a second thought because cars constantly travel on the road. With the out-of-control toddler at the wheel, the car crashed through a small wall and ran over Mattsen. He was stuck under the car with his arm across his chest and knocked unconscious. His wife heard the crash and called for help. Firefighters rescued the neighbor, but he did not experience serious injuries. Mattsen explained that "it just whacked me and I went straight underneath. I remember hearing a bang and that was it." The toddler also has no injuries. Police are not planning on any further action.

This is Your Brain on Drugs

SLIDELL, Louisiana - When two people saw an unattended Krispy Kreme delivery truck, they saw their chance and stole the vehicle. Little did they know that they were leaving behind a 15-mile trail of doughnuts. A Krispy Kreme employee had been making a routine delivery to a convenience store when Rose Houk, 31, and her partner stole the truck. Police were notified that there was a dangerous driver on the road who was losing his doughnuts, but the truck was abandoned when the thieves spotted the cops on their trail. Houk was captured, but her partner in crime was able to flee the scene. According to Houk, they had been smoking crack cocaine prior to the incident, reported police spokesman Rob Callahan. "I don't know if it was a need for transportation or if they just had the munchies," continued the officer. Without any clear destination in mind, our bet is on the munchies.
