SUPERSTITIONS : Suicide Insults The Fates LORE & SOURCES The act of suicide is still today regarded as damaging to the soul as the life has been cut off suddenly and unnaturally so that somehow the fates are insulted.  In India, the Hindu faith determines that an individual that has died by his or own hand will have heavy karma to deal with for many life times before the balance can be redressed.  Suicide in India is rare!  In many parts of Europe suicide and attempted suicide are still technically crimes, and originally therefore the body of the someone taking his or her own life would have been buried in unconsecrated ground, thus insuring a trip to hell - the Western version of bad karma.
