SUPERSTITIONS : Flowers Should Not Remain In A Hospital Ward At Night
LORE & SOURCES
Inside modern hospitals and nursing homes there are a plethora of superstitions employed on a regular basis. Who dares keep flowers in a ward at night? The belief, quite wrongly, is that they use up valuable oxygen in the air and therefore deprive the ailing patients.

This old wives' tale derives from the belief that flowers sometimes house demons who emerge at night and attack the sick who are not strong enough to fight them off. The belief in the power of demons to possess all manner of different natural vegetation such as trees, flowers, rivers and fields, derives from the pagan concept that everything in existence was part of a kind of magical, religious conspiracy - i.e. everything had its own appropriate god, goddess or spirit. Different forms of nature were both protected by named spirits or in danger of being attacked by them, depending on the situation or the requirement of Superstition. The most ancient of ancient beliefs comes down to us today in the form of the fear of having flowers in the presence of the sick at night.
