Encountering apparitions
is probably the oldest and most frequent type of paranormal phenomenon
on record. Nearly all civilizations which kept written records include
stories of visits by spirits of the dead. In tribal cultures, the
interaction between these ancestor figures and present leaders is
often regarded as a source of great wisdom. In more developed
countries, from the Romans and Greeks to those founded on
Christianity, the sightings of ghosts was not uncommon but tended to
receive less reverence and rather more fear. |
