| To me, people kill because of the childhood they had. Take Jeff Dahmer for example, he felt unwanted and grew very distant from everyone, even his parents. Some do it because they were rejected by the opposite sex, or even same sex. But, a lot of killers almost had no motivation. I don't know exactly why people do the things they do, but I'm sure thats a question that will be answered sooner or later... |

| The rush, hatred, power and curiosity. Ending someone's life, a life thought to be useless and with little value or just someone that's caught you on a really bad day. The power you hold to stop them from ever seeing another day. The sounds of bones being crushed, the screams. The ripping of skin and warm blood. The gleam in an eye fading away. |

If you are talking about just serial killers, I know that several serial killers had brain damage happen as children.
It also varies, many killers grow up being abused and learn early on to shut down emotions. Nearly every serial killer you find was abused as a child. So far, I haven't studied a serial killer who was just born "evil". Several will kill because violence was all they were around as children. If you grow up being taught that violence is normal it is hard to just stop because someone tells you to. Vilence becomes hardwired into the brain. Children who grow up without any positive affection, I.E; Hugging, being told they are loved etc. The dopamine levels go low and eventually stay low.
It takes more to excite and arouse. In several cases actual positive affection on these people can cause severe mental anguish. For them, a "normal" sex life would be like telling us to go out a rape and or murder someone. Not only ridiculous but pointless.
Many grow up hating the abuser or empathizing with them, either way the result is rarely well-balanced. Mind, I am not saying every abused child is going to grow up to be a murderer. I am just saying was I have observed.
Personally though, the only things that could drive me to kill would be of course self-defense and if someone was trying to kill someone I loved.
If anyone has any questions about serial killers, post them and I will answer them. And if I don't know the answer, I will lie ;)
Regards, Maistresse

There has to be other things factored into the equation though Maistresse cause not everyone that is abused as a child becomes a serial killer or a murderer. Most people that are abused turn into troubled adults but don't cross the border between right and wrong. So abuse or neglect by itself cannot be used as a reason to become a killer.

There are a million different reasons one human may take the life of another. When discussing serial murderers specifically, it must be acknowledged that an abnormal or abusive childhood, is not always a factor in the development of a serial criminal. Many had hard working, caring parents who are as puzzled as everyone else as to why thier boy must make human lampshades. Some serial murderers are abused as children, or experience some sort of trauma during key moments of growth and development. The key to serial murder is Power.... The subject feeds on fantasy, and is fueled by the desire to dominate others, often due to a lack of control in thier own lives. These days a S.M. must be clever, presice, patient, and above all, ambitious. It's much harder to pick up a pretty hitchhiker than it used to be. And practice makes perfect. Self control is key to any sucessful career as a killer. The "Holy Trinity" of serial pattern behavior warning signs: Pyromania, Enuriesis(bed-wetting beyond a normal age), and animal cruelty. The thrill of kill is much like sexual climax, the depression that often follows is like Post-coital depression. You find yourself alone in bed, and compelled to find another lover. You find yourself alone inside and compelled to shed more blood. Serial murder is personal, and each subject has a signature, a touch all his own that betrays the motivation, the emotion that pusles though him at the victims last breath. Sex is often irrelevent, in that many victims are not sexually assaulted by the murderer, at least not in the usual sense. A knive becomes a penis, and a death cry becomes an orgasm. Somewhere there is a hole inside the serial criminal, and once blood is shed, rehabilitation is impossible. It is an addiction, killing. Ted Bundy was finally located and captured because instead of hunter, his addiction to domination began to dominate him. Like a drug addict who does as his dope tells him to, Ted got caught because he lost his cool. When killing cats loses it's fun, and peeping into windows just don't cut it, the S.M. sets his sights on the ultimate trophy. Us. Imagine if you will how it must feel to lay your hands on someone, cotrol them, terrify them, confuse them, humiliate, degrade, defile, decieve, and finally take from them the only thing left. Life itself. Many S.M.'s in captivity still think longingly of the pleasure they felt looking at the still twisted body of thier first victims. The truth is, the motive for serial murder varies from person to person, but underneath the symptoms, the disease is the same across the board. Control.

I never said every single serial killer is born evil. I am just stating the pattern I have seen over the past years of study.
I did not mean to imply that I knew about every serial killer living or dead. We all make mistakes. So if anyone does know about any serial killers who did come from well-adjusted homes with lots of love and affection, please tell me their name and when he/she lived.
I am not being sardonic, I am being completely sincere. As I said I have yet to find one who did come from a loving home. I am however always happy to learn something new.
Thank You
P.S... Bloodsire, I am quite aware that killing is a sexual high for serial killers. I do apologize if my previous post was unclear about that.
My Bad.

anything can be used as a reason to become a killer. [I believe in one of Maistresse's sentences she did say that not all children who are abused/neglected become killers.] |

| It seems to me that what drives people to kill is the initial urge of aggression and a sort of uncontrolable impulse. But when one looks into how things got to that point, I find that it is largly related to a feeling of helplessness. We all feel as though we have little control over the things that happen around us, but when it is taken to an extreme and combined with feelings of inadequeacy I believe it is a catalyst for the breakdown of anything that would separate man from the rest of the animals. |

I don't think a bad childhood really is a needed thing... In fact perfect childhoods could be equally accountable.
Personally I've had a perfect life so far and I've had some twisted thoughts. LoL Of course I'm pretty calm and cold in regards to life anyway, but I don't go out of my way to snuff it (bugs & stuff). All in all, if I did snap, I'd be in it for the body count high score. (KIDDING) |

That sounds like the old theory of the mother loving them too much or not enough...

I also apologize if my comment was misunderstood. I am aware that there are a million variables in the making of a murder. Childhood memories, losses, abuse......... on on on. It is not so easy to extract accurate, trustworthy info from the tangled neurons in thier minds. In the end, despite the reason for the fantasy, we always learn the most from the dead. Bloodspray patterns, physical attack and injury. The hardest part of deciding why one may kill, is to decide how one has lived. How the criminal may have grown, trying to decide his sophistication level, secretor/non-secretor, etc...........also, the level of violence commited upon the victims body. Bad childhoods may play in part cause a wwithdrawing, a hiding away from all that hurts him. This is when the fantasy begins to grow.
