On Thursday, January 23, 2003, a man trying to beat his dog to death with a gun was fatally wounded when it apparently went off accidentally. Raymond Poore Jr., 43, called his wife at work Thursday and told her that their dog had bitten him and he intended to kill the animal. The wife came home about 6 p.m. and found her husband unconscious, with a number of dog bites and scratches. Emergency medical personnel discovered that Poore had been shot. He was pronounced dead at Winchester Medical Center. Poore must have beaten the 30-pound shar-pei with the gun that went off since the stock of the weapon, a combination rifle and shotgun, was broken and there appeared to be blood and dog hair on it. The dog was in the custody of an animal control officer. No details were available on how badly it was injured.

Kanjo makes an excellent point.....for all we know the dog CAUSED the trigger to be pulled!! Shar-Peis are quite intelligent, formerly they were Chinese Temple guardians. Most dogs can only make 10 sounds, I knew a shar-pei once, which could actually clearly enunciate several 4 word sentances in English.

Did you hear about the agnostic, dislexic insomniac?

He stayed awake all night, every night, wondering if their is a doG.

I offer to adopt this shar-pei, anyone know where it is? I have space, a big yard, forest, trees. My Malinois would LOVE the companionship.

Anyone ever been bitten by a shar-pei? Maybe a cuddly chow dog? They will take your fuckin arm off.....

One thing people do naught generally understand, that to look into a dog's eyes is considered, in their canine world, to be a very direct challenge. Almost an act of war..... humans do this as a sign of attention, respect, listening, but a dog you don't know think it a territorial "fuck you I am here to piss on your tree and your master" kind of thing. When faced with an unfriendly dog, DON'T look it in the eyes, DON'T show fear, or acr like an asshole, turn and walk away with smooth movement. Chances are the dog will see his territory has merely been viewed, respected and that YOU know to seek other ground. Research wolves if you wish to get into dog mind, they are so closely bonded it is.......facinating.

Yes, they were WAY wrong. Such mannerism is to completely invite a battle scene. I enjoy, lack of conflict, and knowing things, how to move and swerve well, is part of this. Being taught to stoke a person, dog, to fear and assault, is naught good, if educated movement can diffuse a nasty situation. I would prefer buying a guy a beer, and saying "I apologize" for any un-intended insult, than wasting my time slamming my tender young yet well trained fists into his mortal envelope. Dogs, are naught thinking like us, a fact few realize. They live by different rules. Not like dealing with people at all, put the anthropomorphisms aside. Welcome to the jungle! Would you have any idea how to avoid snake bite? A bear, protecting her cubs? A crack addict, demanding $$? Research.....and if naught that, a good semi-auto usually works.

I have a friend who does this to cats to assert his authortity (he hates cats).......he did it my kitty when he came to my place the other day. My cat looked him up and down, turned up her nose and tail and walked past him out the door. LOL - was hilarious!
That doesn't relate to dogs tho.........um......woof

LOL - his libido is fine, so Im told!
It was funny tho. I could just imagine what my kitty was thinking!
Cat nip makes for an interesting high when smoked..........no wonder my kitty loves it so much!
Does it work on dogs? Dogs smell bad.

If this dog turned on his master for no apparent reason then I hope it was put down. If the dog cannot control itself it does belong around humans. If the man provoked the dog by being an arsehole to it then he deserved his untimely demise.
Death by Dog.
Sounds like a drink............
