heehee, the Crooks, Cheats and Cranks section is funny! Some people just have NO idea whatsoever. The axolotl section is great. My mate has two axys and I've been showing her the pics of your guys and the caring for them etc bit. its been really hot at her place too and we thought one of her guys wasn't going to make it. Its gills started looking all dry and almost like they were drop off but we did something a little different to cool them off. She has a smaller tank so we chucked a bag of ice in a styrofoam box and sat this little tank on top with Fabio in it and it coooled down to about 20C - as opposed to 29-30C which their big tank is at! So we put Bilbo in there too and they've started moving about a lot more.
Also, in Kmart and places like that you can get these ice pack things that you can mould into shapes or just lie flat and freeze, and they stay cooler for longer than a water bottle, so we put heaps of them in the tank, after reading what u guys did, and its cooled it down heaps - so that new section is great!

Ah...I didn't think of those thermo packs...I used those when I had my wisdom teeth out a few years ago.
The thing is if on of those starts to leak it'll wipe out your little guys.

How is this little guy coping now Jaz? -- We have had Albert's feathers start to do this prior to cooling the tank down and they are still withery, not anything like they used to be, which is a shame. The book that we have on Axolotls says that these withering feathers are the first sign of the Axy turning into a Salamander, though the book also states that Axy's rarely turn anymore because some species just don't know how to do it anymore, which I found interesting...
With about 8L's of ice blocks in the tank daily and rotating them we have managed to get the tank down as low as 18 degrees, though on average it is about 20 - 23 degrees....
Oh and Jaz... ta for the kind words about the Crypt  -- Have you ever looked at the Chamber though?
