If you are happy with the standard black, white and gold varieties Bali Blue Aquariums at Penrith are excellent and so the people who run the store - Pat and Harry.
Buck and I have been asking Pat and Harry to try to get in other varieties and hopefully soon they will.
Bali Blue's axys are about medium size and $15, though if you tell them that the Tank Of Death people sent you, you might get a discount
They also stock a large range of aquariums for such a small store, this is where Buck and I got the Tank of Death. We also buy our bloodworms from there as the brand they stock seems to be the best for feeding our axys, though I am sure if you want to know more about the bloodworms, Buck would tell you, as he handles most of the feeding in the Tank.

$ 30 is very expensive - the thing is at Park Lea Markets they have some colours in their Axolotls you don't normally see in petshops. The first time we went to Parklea Markets looking at Axolotls we paid $ 28.00 for Erszebet.
Erzebet - we paid $ 28 for her because we had never seen an Axolotl like her before.
But we were there again last weekend and paid $ 15.00 for Herb which is a lot more reasonable. Prices out here at Penrith are around the $ 10 - $ 20 dollar region for Axolotls of all sizes.
Herb - Purchased last weekend from Park Lea but for $ 15.00
Cheers, Buck.

We were in Pets Paradaise at Penrith Plaza today. They only had one Axolotl and they were charging $ 35.99 for it.
Cheers, Buck.

We visited the Fish Hatchery at Windsor today and they had some decent size Axolotls in one of their big dark tubs but they are charging $ 32.50 for them.

St George Aquariums has a few decent ones, a few types of albino, blacks, golds and some poor hideous critter with 7 legs and a banged up head. :(
Decent size, decent price, OK health, but know what you are looking for BEFORE you go in.
Pet central in Penrith has a nice selection of black and gold young'uns. Clean, no extra limbs or missing tals, and kept in a species tank so you dont have to worry about slime coat or gill damage :)
Havent checked out Bali Blue for quite a while. Tend to steer clear as their fish conditions depress me. Might duck in and see these axies tho. Perhaps the conditions have improved. :) |

Shy and I both have to learn now to stop buying Axolotls as we now have 9 in our 4 foot tank, it's looking pretty crowded in there at feeding time.

Will have to check them out Callatya, can you post the address so we can find them. Buck and I loooove looking at new pet stores.

The tanks might be clean Callatya but the price is shocking! And the advice and customer service from the staff is worse!
Though I have to tell you I was at Wet & Dry Pets at Kingswood yesterday buying crickets for the tank of death and I had to hold my tongue, lucky for the staff there that I had my mother with me or I would have put them in there place.
Before getting the crickets I did a quick sweep of the store and lingered at the axy tank to consider whether another axy could squish into our excessively populated tank of death. The decision was made easy when I looked in the tank with its 33 degree temperature, $20 for tiny axys with legs missing and skinny little things that I wanted to rescue from the stores uncaring staff.
I stood at the counter and a man was buying a little yellow axy, the female staff member told this guy that the only thing axys eat is bloodworms, then proceeded to tell him that the axys limb wouldn't grow back and that the axy loves a warm tank. No wonder their axy tank looked so bad, the staff are so misinformed about axys it was frightening. Now usually I would set the person straight, more concerned about the care of the axy than the pride of the sales person. But the guy got out of the store and into his car too quickly for me to try and help him save that little axys life.

The most depressing conditions that I have seen would be over at a pet shop, which unfortunately I cannot remember the name of at the moment, but is over at Doonside. The tanks were slimey and way too warm, the axys were skinny with limbs missing and the prices were sky high!

I'll grab the addy for you :) Do be careful, the tank they are in is very "RESCUE ME!" and you might not get out without buying one! *lol*
Their SW pond is something to marvel at tho ;) certainly something i'd like to have!
Found another pet store on the weekend. Blacktown Pet & Produce on 5th ave. Its up the back of a warehouse, quite hidden. Supercheap live plants (Apons, anubias, crypts, stem plants, etc) great selection of fish, although one was painted. They had a good range of oddball critters including a LARGE gold axie for about $14.95 i think. He would have eaten Barnaby in one single gulp, so he had to stay there :P
BTW, about Pet Central, granted the prices are bad, but what was the advice that you heard? Scott is pretty cluey when it comes to axies, and he is very big on water quality control for preventing illness. He does tend to overstock by about 1/2, but thats about all i can think of *puzzled*. Do you remember who you spoke to (or what they looked like)? I'll give them a good kick up the bum! We cant be having people getting dud advice, its just not right :)
Oh, and if you guys see any small (4") green/wild colour or leucistics around, could you let me know? I am beginning to thing Barnaby is a tad lonely all by himself.

Hi,
Does anyone knows how to send Axolotl overseas? Is it ok to send them overseas? I'm actually quite interested on them but find it really hard to get them in my country. I currently own 1 female white young axo and would like to get another male and try to breed them. Thank you for your help! :) |

Edmund was purchased this afternoon at Companion Pets in Emerton. He is huge, one of the biggest we have ever seen but only cost $ 19.95.
Companion pets also told us they will soon be relocating to Penrith.
