Paranormal researcher William McCord, Ph.D., can't sing a note,
but he's done a prodigious amount of work uncovering why the
untalented and tuneless hit the top of the charts. We all know
how digital technology has allowed music producers to slice,
dice and season voices so that just about anyone who speaks
can sound (through a treated microphone) like a pop star. Dr.
McCord's research takes a giant step further. As an expert in
sound, Dr. McCord is aware of its power. He's just one of a
growing number of paranormal experts who believe that the
Egyptian pyramids were built with the assistance of music.
They theorize that the multi-ton blocks were transported via
a form of "sonic levitation." The precise means is open to
speculation, but a combination of gongs, trumpets and chanting
is thought to have caused the monoliths to rise into place.
The case is buttressed by the fact that there is no recorded
proof that slave labor was employed in building the pyramids.
In an interview, Dr. McCord told me that he applied this con-
troversial theory to today's popular music. Was a certain
combination of sounds "moving" consumers to buy otherwise
musically dreadful CDs? The answer, according to Dr. McCord,
is a qualified "yes." Scientific analysis of recordings by many
of today's chartbusters discovered a complex series of tones
common to each. Evidence of a conspiracy on the part of the
music industry? "I'm not prepared to make that conclusion,"
Dr. McCord replied. "I hope that this is just a historical
accident. The last thing this culture needs is for pop music
executives to discover the secret to producing terrible but
wildly popular songs." With that in mind, Dr. McCord, a
classical music buff, says he will never make his findings
available to the major media conglomerates.
