I've lived in Dallas for the past 5 years. A few months ago, I found a paperback in a used bookstore with the lurid title The Eyeball Killer adorning the cover. When I read it, I learned said killer was Charles Albright, a local fifty-seven year-old teacher, father, and "Good Samaritan." On 3 seperate occasions in the early 90's he allegedly shot 3 prostitutes to death then remove their eyes with almost surgical precision. As a child one of his favorite hobbies was taxidermy, but his mother refused to spurge for glass eyes & he was forced to use buttons. Now, in jail, he pays special attention to news reports of crimes where eyes have been gouged or removed, and also spends his time painting and sketching pictures of women's eyes.
According to the book, the case has been on "A Current Affair," but this was the first I'd heard of it. I wonder why that is? One would think that eyeball removal would get a little more coverage. Maybe it was the low victim count, or that he never confessed, or perhaps because no one ever found or figured out what became of the removed eyes.
