Keyboards, computer mice and telephone dials are more infested with microbes than toilet seats, according to United States researchers. The University of Arizona study recommends that office workstations be regularly disinfected since they can on average contain 400 times as many germs as a toilet seat.
The study by Charles Gerba, a University of Arizona microbiologist, found that telephones harboured up to 3,894 germs per square centimetre, keyboards 511 and computer mice 260.
The average office contains 3,249 germs per square centimetre. "Desks are really bacteria cafeterias," he said.
"They are breakfast bars, lunch tables and everything else, as we spend more hours at the office.
"When someone is infected with a cold or flu bug, the surfaces they touch during the day become germ transfer points because some cold and flu viruses can survive on surfaces for up to 72 hours - an office can become an incubator."
US health officials last month warned about the dissemination of germs during the flu season.
Officials reminded Americans to cover their nose and mouth while sneezing, wash their hands regularly and use disinfectant swabs to clean their office desks.

Caacrinolaas (aka Caassimolar, Glassia-labolas) is a high president of hell who commands 36 legions. He appears as a dog with griffin wings. He teaches liberal arts, inspires murder, makes men invisible, and predicts the future. In the Great Grimoire, he is called Classyalabolas, a sergeant sometimes mounted to Nebiros or Naberus.

It's not the dirt on my keyboard that bothers me - the damn cat just did a crap in the kitty litter by the door and it's KILLING ME!!!!! How can one cat smell so much is beyond me. Even breathing through my mouth doesn't help .... It's getting worse ... eyes watering .. lungs collapsing .... brain expiring in a cloud of shit ...I gotta go.

O.o You should try a new brand of kitty litter, Like freshsteps, or that one with the anti-smelling crystals in it..

lol - Jukama, kitty needs to learn how to make use of the great outdoors! My kitty has done the odd snap thats cleared the house of all living occupants! How the hell can something so cute and fluffy and innocent clear a house in a matter of moments!!!! Foul bowls.
Back to keyboards and office desk equipment in general - it really is amazing how resilient the human body is to germs. With 3,249 germs per square centimetre in the office alone, its a wonder why we're not a all dead!

I have 2 cats that are indoors only - they have never ever been outside except for their one and only visit to the vets to get spayed. They usually don't stink as we keep the litter container nice and deep in fresh kitty litter but I changed their food - BIG mistake. I also have 2 indoor dogs (Jack Russells) and 2 outdoor dogs (Dobermann and X-cattledog) who would LOVE to eat indoor dogs and cats. Especially the Dobe who hates little dogs and all cats. OK now back to keyboards .........
