Is it simply that we treat ourselves rather like the washing lines and attach these things wherever they happen most conveniently to hang, like the ear or the finger, the neck or the arm? Or is there a deeper and more significant reason, like for example the fact that it was always believed that demons could enter the body only through one of the human orifices? It was therefore quite logical to place an earring made of magic materials, suitably empowered with numerous incantations over at least two of them by way of magical defence.

A broken ring means a broken relationship - I can actually vouch for that. This guy I was dating in high school gave me a ring for some occasion and not long before we broke up my ring split in half
I didnt see this in the wearin gof jewellery spiel, but I've heard that you wear your wedding ring on the 4th finger of your left hand because it has some vein or something that goes right to the heart......

It is definitely true that metal holds memory, musical recording tape, VHS tapes, use iron particles to store their sounds/images. A strong magnetic wave can erase them...... Some close-quarter weapons, knives, maces, katars, swords, which have been used often, I feel totally verify this, some of these weapons, when held, can make the hair stand up on your wrist, even induce violent emotion. Our bodies, thoughts, nervous systems appear to be filled with electrical charges, I am certain that different metals are more conductive than others, to produce good feeling to the wearer. A copper band around the wrist is sometimes thought to improve health, perhaps it is the effect on your electronics, perhaps it is the absorption of copper through the skin. If you......change parts within your com-pooter, "they" always strongly advise you keep a hand on the chassis, to ground yourself, to prevent electrically damaging components with your bodies natural charge. People who build com-pooters wear a grounding strap, usually affixed to the wrist. I have a silver Wolf's head ring, wear it sometimes but am naught certain if it makes me feel good due to energy flow difference, or just because it LOOKS so cool! Crystals are also strongly believed to retain memory, they are definitely interesting.....I once made an AM (amplitude modulation) radio out of a crystal, a diode and a wound coil of copper wire, and received broadcast signal on it, this is a common thing to do (or used to be anyways) to introduce you to the wonders of radio communication, and the functioning of it.

The wedding band is to signify the circle of life and love is never ending. Why you wear it on your left hand I am unsure of. All I know is this is the same hand that you are asked to oath on.
Mary Ann Cotton, She is dead and she is rotten, She lies in her bead, with her eyes wide open, sing, sing, oh, what can I sing, Mary Ann Cotton is tied up with a string. Where, where? Up in the air. Sellin' black pudddens a penny a pair. British nusery rhyme |

Before humanity knew what time was, or had a gemstone fore every month of the year, we have known that certain metals and gemstones are effective in protecting the parts of the body which are more succeptible to psychic or spiritual attack. Iron, copper, and silver all 3 possess powerful potential to either protect or harm. Jewellry as we know it today is much more than a matter of style. Whether most people are aware or not, rings, bracelets, chokers, belly chains, and earrings, were once considered to be necessary talismans against unfamiliar or malevolent energies. If you think about the chakras which reside in the human body, and thier locations, it is not so hard to imagine that vital elemental ornaments and charms were strategically worn for safety's sake, having little to do(in the beginning)with status, or decoration. Indeed, one tale speaks of an Archangel who(along with others who decended to earth to teach mankind of the arts and sciences)dwelt with the 'Sons of Man' and taught them how to forge metals and to polish and cut gemstones. Most importantly, mankind learned the metaphysical value of the charms and trinkets they could now create. We were taught the language of the angels, and were instructed through the art of magik to create powerful charms....heaven came down to help us sift through earth, digging for stones and ores which had thier own powers and attributes. I wear a cross around my neck every day, not because I am a subscriber to religion, but because it was a gift from someone who is no longer with me on this earth. When I take it off, even just to polish it, I am painfully aware of the absence of my cross, and find myself on edge until it is around my neck again. Objects only posess the power which we allow them to have. One mans ceiling is anothers floor...This silver cross seems worthless to the casual observer, not even worth stealing, but I have fought before to keep it around my neck, and would again. A truckload of diamonds could not convince me to part with a simple silver charm. I think I am rambling...hope someone caught all that. Besides, who am I kidding? The only superstition I actually subscribe to is the old rule which states that having someones(other then your mother or children)name tattooed onto your body, is the fastest way to end a relationship. It is a truism that I respect and believe completely. Other than that....I could give a fuck about black cats, broken mirrors, or umbrellas open inside. I have a feeling that even Bad Luck would find it pointless to pay me a visit. He'd be so bored, sitting there, watching me screw everything up with absolutley no help at all!

Awesome, Bloodsfire. I also believe that jewelry was originally for protection, but also the ornamentation factor would be difficult to deny. Back then, many objects had to play multiple roles to be worth making or obtaining. A hunting spear, arrows, also used for war/defense, a special flint for scraping animal skins also used to "sand" wood, a protection ring or bracelet also used to keep a vow. A vessel used for drinking, also for bathing.... I think we all agree certain metals have their own powers, and as Bloodsfire (***YOW**) pointed out, believing in something GIVES it power. I am sure all have experience with this ......

On the subject of jewelry having multiple uses, Mazeppa's post reminded me of the Italian family of the Medici, and the infamous 'poison ring' tale. Jewelry can have many uses, in these modern times, though, I think secret compartments and poison chambers built-in to gem encrusted adornments are a thing of the past. Such a shame....there is just no romance in the world anymore. Ahhh, well!

Hmm...I have a hemp choker with red, yellow and green beads together in it, (Think Jamican flag). A metel ball chain with medium balls (lol). A necklace with funky shiny blue long beads that my aunt got me from jamica, and my dad's dog chain from when he was in the marines.
