COLUMBIA, S.C. - Apparently store hours mean little to hundreds of bats that have flocked to an employee elevator at the back of a shopping mall near downtown. Roughly 350 of the nocturnal mammals have been found so far, said Brian Berrios of Wildlife Solutions, which has been hired to capture the creepy creatures from the elevator's skylight at the Richland Mall.
Mall management has shut down the elevator to keep the bats from spreading to the mall's shopping area, asking employees of a call center inside the mall to use customer entrances.
"We take this very seriously and don't want anybody injured," said Richland Mall general manager Tim Russell. "If you encounter a bat, it's one too many. They do startle you."
The bats were first discovered a week ago, and Russell said the mall should be "bat free" by Wednesday.

I personally LoVE bats, have no fear of them. I once sculpted the Edvard Monk painting, "The Scream," and during a "Dio Los des Muertes" party a guy blew cigarettes smoke into the mouth, and a bunch of BATS flew out at him! The head is hollow, you see, I often devise sculptures which critters like to live in.... Here is a joke photo regarding bats....write, or I SWEAR "The bat GETS IT!!"

I have a tatoo of 2 bats on my arm - and bats in my ears and round my throat. To have a mall full of bats is a shopping experience from heaven. And I love the sculpture Mazeppa - a head full of bats, now that would be a self-portrait.

I would LOVE to visit this mall....
Where I used to live, in Florida, there were a LOT of mosquitoes, so I made homes for bats, sculptures, cement houses in the trees,.... the city built a gargantuan bat house, but no bats inhabited it....they flocked to MY place. I used to work outside at night, or just stand there very still, and they would sweep through the air, sometimes swooping a foot from my head. I most love the radar sounds they put out, accompanying their quiet flight. Up here, some have a "problem" with bats infesting their homes, not intelligent enough to research or build ways to derive the benefits, and stem nuisance. I personally don't want bat shit all over the house, but like them outdoors! There is a place in Missouri, U.S.A., called "Silver Dollar City." The town was built up around a HUGE cave....the mining operation regarded several centuries of BAT guano. It was used as a fertilizer, base for women's cosmetics, (!!!) and for various commercial products. When visiting there, I fall WAY behind the tour group and spelunck independantly....///

Yes no good horror tale, cavernous tour, or shopping trip, is complete without a few bats. Theres some big cave thing up in North Queensland (actually theres lots but I went to this one), cant remember what it was called but we were thru this underground cavern thing to a waterhole with a really high ceiling and on top of the ceiling were all these bats....the guide started throwing rocks up there and hundreds of bats went f***ing nuts and were screeching like banshees. Not cool. Like today's weather, tis quite warm outside.

Bats, I love them. I often leave the backdoor open so that my Belgian Malinois can perform her constant roving patrols, in and out of the house. Sometimes I leave a light on outside so that the bats have a huge cloud of insects attracted to the light to scarf upon....however two nights ago tired of outdoor life (must have liked the Rasputina cello work cranking at 90 decibals) so he came in, and perched himself right above the com-pooter......and before taking this picture or dis-per-terbing him, he PISSED on the wall.... I got a Popeye spinach can and an envelpe, then aye aye trapped and very gently released him outdoors, he swooped and ate about 20 or so bugs attracted by the light, whilst I listened to his radar chirps....so much for having bats as pets!!!! Nice stain on the ol' 1917 wallpaper!!!hahahahaha....[8onC:\My Documents\Batwon.JPGe D]
