One of the motivations of most serial crimes, be it indecent exposure, sexual assault, stalking, or homicide, is sexual satisfaction. In many cases however, there is no evidence of direct physical sexual assault, because of the fact that many serial criminals derive sexual fulfillment from the wounding and/or death of a victim. It is the violence and degradation which fuels the sense of power, control, and the euphoria of god-like delusions. Many killers recoil from sexual violation of thier (living) victims. That is, in the literal physical sense of molestation. Indeed, many find themselves to be impotent when face to face with a living breathing partner. Sometimes though, knifes(or other sharp, cutting tools)are used to inflict terrible damage during an attack. The piercing of flesh with a knifeblade is very closely tied to the piercing of one sexual partner by the phallus of another. The intercourse of sick minds, even the sounds which accompany the attack and stabbing of a victim resemble the sounds we often connect with sexual activity. Strangulation often occurs in sync with the signature of piquerism, this may reflect the fixation on the final "extinguishing of the light", the putting out of that last glimmer of struggle in the eyes of the victim. The final and greatest surrender that may be offered up to the demon inside of every killer. The piquerism signature is indicative of a murderer who most likely maintains an extremely cold aloofness from his victim. Not exactly aloof, perhaps, since the repeated stabbing of any living thing usually tends to be not only very messy, but occurs in very up-close, personal range. The piercing of flesh is a very personal act, requiring a level of intimacy produced by close proximity of victim to killer if by nothing else. Murderers and rapists who enjoy cutting thier victims are also known to progress more rapidly down violence continuum. There is a complete contradiction in the process and ritual of piquerism. That contradiction is obvious when examining the issue of intimacy. A killer may be willing to plunge elbow deep into the vital organs and body fluids of a victim, jabbing and slicing into his human sacrifice, mutilating the most private areas of a persons body, and yet wince and shy away when physical sexual contact of any 'normal' kind is in question. These men may be seen at a local bar huddled in a corner alone, glancing furtively, sometimes boldly ogling those coming and going around him. He may place himself in social situations which expose him to men and women of many different shapes and sizes. He may on rare occasions even attempt to carry on a conversation if he is bold. Most often though, these 'instrumental' killers peer out at a world to which they belong without actually feeling that they fit-in anywhere at all. Desperate and diabolical all at once. The world flies by in a gust of unobtainable sensuality. What they want so desperatley is not to be accepted by thier fellow man, but rather to inflict upon the 'chosen few'(or many)who become thier victims, the slights, the humiliations, the same terrible treatment that the world had given out to the killer. At least in his mind. "Do unto others what has been done to you", becomes a mantra to replace Christ's most practical and universal admonishment, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you". Just another twist that is often observed in the behavior and statment given by numerous convicted serial murderers.
