Posted - 03 November 2004 : 10:10:34 PM Hi, Well alot has happened since I last posted on here... I have recently updated, I got Collin a 4 foot tank, and fluval 4 + filter, as you can see I'm taking this seriously lol... Anyway his been in there for a couple of months now. And a few things have happened that have got me worried. The bacteria has grown and is doing o.k. There is no amonia abnormalities. I have have plants, lazy hale (called something like that, baby snails, that are rapidly multiplying (must of came attached to the plants) as well as a bridge that he loves to walk up and down.... However, at first he got "burnt" I know, I'm ashamed, he got white discolouration to his skin, and he's gill's shrunk, he then recovered a little bit. Nothing to serious. Now I did a partial water change the other day 1/4, and he got worse, I'm thinking there is something wrong with my water, but our water is fairly good round here. And everything else seems fine. Also about 1-2 weeks ago his tail shrunk a bit and his spending alot of time up at the surface floatin, balancing. I'm disturbed yet again, I don't know what to do, I hope his not trying to metamorphes, wrong spelling, I know.
~ So we have some discolouration of his black skin being white ~ His gills have shrunk ~ His tail has shrunk What the hell is going on..! I'm planing to get him a friend on the weekend to compare their health, see if it's just collin or something else. I think a companion might help too... Oh and one other thing he hasn't ate in 2 days, I know this is no big thing, but every night I feed him, not too much and he always eats, so this is kind of worrying...Alos I'm not sure if this helps but, he does this little gulps, not opening his mouth, but swallowing, not sure if that helps... I know he had trouble with oxygen when the new water burnt him but that was ages months ago, and he didn't get any worse, then the water change I did a couple of days ago 1/4 of tank..it has since developed on from there. Is it the snails? I have no idea, what should I do? |

Posted - 13 November 2004 : 9:06:19 PM Oh and another thing, he did look pretty old, I'm not sure how old he was, but when I got him, he had these little bumps on him, tiny ones under his skin, and he was the biggest out of the 5 there, 18cm, I heard they get these when they get older. I'm thinking it could be stress +old age + a small problem, I don't know though? I couldn't take him to a vet, cause none round here know anything about them, I remember before when I tried. Anyway it's too late now.. |

Posted - 13 November 2004 : 9:02:23 PM Oh and when I said burn't I meant I put him staright in the tank before it cycled, he was stressing out in the smaller one so I thought it would be better then wait a few weeks, anyway he recovered from that. It was a few weeks later after he went down hill... |

Posted - 13 November 2004 : 8:59:42 PM It's too late Collin died 4 -5 days ago...I'm so upset. I still cry ever now and then. You probably think I'm lame, but He was the only aquatic animal I've had that I grew so close to... I can't get anymore, it is too painful. Collin was about 18, 18.5 cm long... I knew when he wouldn't eat, I had a serious problem, he died 2 days later. I noticed about a week ago before the 2 days he stopped eating, that he was looking a bit down. Then he stopped eating, 2 days later he was doing this little swimming movement gulping oxygen, the he passed away, hours later... I so hope it wasn't me, I tried moving him back to his smaller tank, but he died a few hours later. By then it was too late, I didn't think he was that bad till I saw him the last final hours he seemed to go way down hill. I had checked the water, before and that seemed o.k. Any suggestions spawn? I'm never getting anymore...I can't. And after all I tried to do for him. |

ok lets tackle this !!!
1, how big and old is he ??
2, GET RID OF THE SNAILS !!!! (pick them out then crush them with your finger)
3, test your tap water (Ph) fill a glass let stand for 1 hour then test.
3, what do you use to dechlorinate the water before u put it in ?
read this post http://www.aquariacentral.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-663.html mainly the 9th post down by "JSchmidt" then read on just ignore the fact its for tropical fish
4, what are you refering to when you say BURNT ??
