One of the 18th Century’s interesting characters was Lady Cork. She was an immensely popular woman. However she had one failing that drove her friends crazy: she collected other people’s belongings. Whenever she went out to dinner, hosts would hide their silver and leave out pewter spoons and forks which she scooped up and put in her muff.
