Begins narrator Tony Jay as a photo of Dr. Holmes' castle of horrors is shown on-screen.
As the Columbian Exposition opens in Chicago, H.H. Holmes is busy preparing to rent rooms to visitors. Little did these visitors know that they were entering a tomb of a human monster.
Not much is known about London's Jack the Ripper. But it is certain that his American counterpart, H.H. Holmes was an extremely evil visionary. Holmes designed a massive building solely for disposing of human remains. He would sell the skeletons of his victims to universities and medical schools.
The first ever documentary on Holmes is to be released spring 2003. Feel free to ask any questions about Holmes or the film. For reading, I suggest starting with "Depraved" by Harold Schechter, then moving to "The Scarlet Mansion" by Alan Eckertt.

Posted - 22 April 2004 : 06:21:18 AM hey, I'm in UIL Social Studies and the topic is the Gilded Age. Well we have to read this book for it called The Devil in the White City, its all about H. H. Holmes and Daniel Burnham and the World Comlumbian Exposition. But it's got me interested in H.H. Holmes, because I'm a crime buff i guess and I hadn't ever heard about him. Any info during about him preferably during the Worlds Fair-his death and about the castle would be greatly appreciated. THanks! ~Amber

Posted - 14 April 2003 : 08:13:34 AM Hello,
Yes, I have heard of the news for the Hollywood film on H.H. Holmes. I have not been contacted as of yet. It will be interesting to see what they come up with. Either way, I still have a concept (with myself as director) for the ultimate Holmes feature film that will one day come to fruition. I would not even need a enormous budget to make it a great film which the story deserves to be. But there is even better news! My film on Holmes is complete and ready to sell to the public!

Posted - 09 April 2003 : 9:00:48 PM Looks like a movie or two are in the works on Mr Holmes according to this bulletin from the excellent movie geek site, www.chud.com
"Hollywood has this thing about dual projects - whether they be about asteroids hitting the Earth or Alexander the Great, sometimes it seems like Tinseltown minds think alike and two or more movies about the same thing get greenlit at the same time.
The latest subject to get the deja vu treatment is H.H. Holmes, who may have been America's first true serial killer, and who found his victims at the Chicago World's Fair in 1893. Tom Cruise and Leonardo DiCaprio are looking at competing projects about the man.
Paramount optioned the book Devil in the White City for Tom's production company. The tome, by Erik Larson, is free of Savage Dragons but does spin the tale not only of HH Holmes, who terrorized the Fair, but also Daniel Burnham, the enterprising architect who built the Fairgrounds, known as the White City, and home of the first Ferris Wheel. The adaptation will be directed by Kathryn Bigelow, who stank up the ocean with K-19 last.
Meanwhile, DiCaprio has assigned screenwriters to develop a movie just about Holmes and the Pinkerton detective who tracked him. Rather than do something expensive like option a book, the writers will use public domain materials, like newspapers.
We'll see who manages to get to the finish line first, since that often is the key factor in competing movie concepts."
Have you heard anything about this Bates ?
Cheers, Buck.
