Posted - 01 April 2004 : 2:24:58 PM Ok. This is a story I heard many many years ago, I cannot remember where or when exactly, but I've always loved it. Its quite sad really, but I like it Anyways, this is my version of it. Oh, and I do not claim this is what actually happened either.
Once upon a time, long before humans, before animals as we know them today, before the dinosaurs...when the earth was just water and one big, green, island, Great Gods ruled over the earth. They found it most difficult to keep harmony between their animals and fishes so they placed these magikal beings on the earth to watch over everything and see to it that all remained peaceful and harmonious. These beings looked just like two humans joined together. They each had two heads, four arms, four legs and lived in perfect content; each being was happy and in love, for they were always joined with their soul mate. They knew no lies, deceit, trickery or evil. They spent their days roaming the earth, swimming at nighttime in the beautiful blue ocean, gazing up at the stars and then waking up in each others arms on the beach every morning. Day in day out, nothing ever changed. Until one day, one of the beings became jealous of another being who was more beautiful than it was...it sought to hurt the more beautiful being and say nasty things about it so others wouldnt like it, and it wasn't too long before all the beings were fighting with each other about who was more beautiful, who had the more beautiful half. This displeased the Gods above who watched over the earth. They had placed the beings here to keep guard of their world, and clearly, with all that fighting, they were not doing their job anymore. So the Gods decided to punish all the beings. They created a HUGE storm, with fierce winds, and high, swelling seas that enveloped everything in their path, and thunder so loud the very trees shook in their roots, and then they sent down lightning bolts that split each being in half...so now they each had one head, two arms and two legs. Then the Gods together blew up a great big gust of wind which caught all the beings in it and scattered them all across the big, green earth-island. They then split the island into much smaller islands, but left all the beings scattered about wondering what had happened. Then the Gods disappeared.... Slowly, as time passed, the beings began to feel imcomplete...they began to feel an aching deep within their new bodies, they longed to be re-united with their other half. So the search began. They started to build roads, and cities, and transport devices, and they bgan to look for each other. When each half of the soul found the other half, they instantly knew that feeling of completion, and when they died - they were united as the magikal being they once were. For those who took longer to find their soul mate, long enough to die, they were simply re-born and left to continue their search. And that is how it came to be...the beings trapped on earth bred, evolved and wandered, some finding their other half quicker than others, some becoming so old they could not remember the time before they were split. But each half soul instinctively knows it must find its other half and be re-united, however long it shall take.........................

Posted - 27 September 2005 : 12:09:37 PM NO. I like this story more. And at my age you have no soul mate. You have one week to three month flings. Longer if you're really in love, like highschool sweethearts.

Posted - 08 January 2005 : 1:10:18 PM The world has spent countless monies and time looking for the answer. And of all the religious and non-religious theories and scientific data that has been thrown on our plates to digest and pick apart, time and time again, people believe what they want to believe period. Maybe we should have a better understanding of what is happening today and how it is shaping the future. A better question to ponder may be, For what reason do we Exist?

Posted - 02 April 2004 : 2:06:09 PM It is, doesn't it! I think its wildly romantic, all the more improbable as well! But just to imagine...thats what we're really doing....
