I am curious as to why people on this site don't use their real name. Afraid of being burned? Cyber-veils? I also see so few homepages. Just curious......

Well Robert, theres a lot of fucking weirdos out there, bad weirdos, and I dont like to use my real name, my whole name, because I dont particularly like the idea of being hunted down, stalked and raped by some sick fuck who thinks its ok to do that.
You can get any info you like from the internet these days, inclduing people's personal details....you just need to know the right places to look.
Why are you using your real name?

And I dont have a homepage because I dont have MY OWN homepage, as in like a personal one. The one I listed is just a fave one that I wanted to share

I am curious why so many people assume that I don't use my real name

As Jaz (Iceheart) brings up about being stalked, I know that I have had fella's turn up at my work demanding to speak with me and guys constantly calling the office, so sometimes its just easier as well as safer to hide behind an alias. I also think that women experience more of these hassles than men.

Just comparing ICQ messages throughout the room here, I know I get about 150 ICQ messages a day compared to the two fellas (which is a pitiful effort I must say) and I am pretty sure they have never been asked if they will allow someone to douse them in honey, dress them in a ballerina outfit and take photos of them... whereas I have been asked.

Thank you for the explanation, I was just curious. I use my real name because I have no need to hide. I realize persons can look me up,
this does not invoke fear in me. Heck, I am even listed in the phone book!

Is it true they outlawed personal firearms in Australia, and then the murder and robbery rate went up 300% And then someone defended themselves against a weirdo by using a sword, and then Australias government made sword posession illegal?

Not being a stalker or a rapist, but a well balanced dude with a lot of work and multiple interests, I can never understand the mentality of the weirdos, nor Shys' description of her E-mails....Egads. I am certain if I were getting messages like that, I would go clandestine!

I've been a shooter for 15 years and used to work in the Australian sporting firearms industry until new laws decimated it in 1996.

After the Port Arthur Massacre of 1995 where Martin Bryant shot and killed 35 people on a shooting spree at a Tasmanian tourist location Australia states and territories banded togther and created new stricter gun laws.

Semi automatic rifles and shotguns and pump action shotguns were all banned and the government purchased them in a buyback scheme. All firearms had to become registered even your Dad's old .177 air rifle !

There was already a licencing system in place where a genuine need for firearm ownership has to be established - active member of a gun club or vermin destruction.

Handguns can only be owned by an active member of a pistol club who shoots at the club at least 12 times per year - it is also illegal to hunt with a handgun.

Last year stricter hand gun laws were introduced, anything bigger than a .38 was banned. I lost the Norinco 1911 .45 above to this. Magazine capacity has also been reduced to a maximum of 10 rounds.

As for swords I'm pretty sure they aren't banned, kanjo would be the man to ask about that being heavily into the martial arts scene. You can buy ornamental swords like big Conan the Barbarian looking peices or even the beautiful replicas of the swords from the Lord Of The Rings films (somebody by me an Elven sword please !) without too much trouble.

Just don't wander down the street with one like they do to the guy in Melbourne who keeps popping up in public places with a sword claiming to be an Immortal Highlander, the Police like to quickly demonstrate how there doesn't necessarily have to be only one as they pepper spray him to the ground.

The thing is, buybacks and tougher gun laws haven't at all lowered the gun crime rate in Australia with gun crime here in Sydney running rampant with gang wars being played out by Asian gangs and "gentlemen of middle eastern appearance" as they are described in the local press. Sydney's streets are awash with illegal handguns.

Cheers, Buck.

Thanks Buck,

I get a lot of E-mails from a firearms dealer in Australia, he says the situation regarding firearms ownership there has become horrible, as I don't live there i don't know. I do know that violent firearms crime rates increase tremendously in places where one cannot legally own a firearm, Washington D.c. (one of THOSE places) and New York City are prime examples. My nations capital, where one is NOT allowed to legally carry a firearm, unless you are a policeman or a member of a government agency, has the highest murder rate by firearms in the country. Go figure.....

I live in a rural country area. We have no firearms crime, maybe an occasional hunting accident..... We also have no illegal DRUG PROBLEM, no loads of people spewing out babies to be subsidized by welfare, no immigrants.....not since 1940 or so....hey, I visit cities, I also am in posession of a concealed carry permit. Victimized? No. And yes, we are armed to the teeth out here, many of us are ex-military and we don't need to put up "neighborhood watch zone" signs. We take care of our-selves.

Sorry they took your .45

How hard are thy to get in the US. The concealed carry permit is like this legendary thing of dreams for shooters here in Australia. May I ask what what you carry ?

Don't get me wrong...my interest in handgunning had tappered off and I wasn't using it as much as I should and I got paid 3 times as much as it cost me but the fact that honest law abiding shooters get lumped in with the crimes committed by gun toting criminals really pisses me off. I have personally handed in 4 firearms over the last 10 years to be thrown in the crusher because of someone else's crime.

mmm, swords are cool. I recently bought this wicked one, the handle is a dragon. It r puuurty

Im not a fan of guns either. They cut a fight short. I mean, should I ever been held between life and death for real, a gun would be most appreciated....but Im obssessed with real fighting - swords and knives, hand to hand combat.

How would one "Dang me?" Well, dissing me on Halloween when I arrange a devastating date would be an excellent start!

I also share Icehearts interest in Close Quarters Combat (CQC) but realize it is a bad idea to bring a knife to a gunfight. Many criminals carry knives, or guns, I am not going to gamble. The best thing is to avoid such situations, of course, but things happen.

The thing with firearms, is that a lot of people overlook the romance, history, physics, chemistry, how much FUN they are. I have converted several persons who thought guns are all evil, just by taking them somewhere and having them fire an AK-47 or some other suitable firearm. They realize how FUN it is! And that the anti-gunner arguments crumble when a little education is introduced into their equation. I studied blade combat quite extensively, still have my old Case V-42, Gerber Army issue, and a collection of interesting historical pieces, such as an Indian Katar designed to pierce armour.
I never leave the house without a blade, though usually the use it gets is as a tool. I practice throwing knives also, as I feel the ideal situation is to stay as far away from an assailent as possible. Geez, Dang me! Getting too close, I might catch a cold or something!

I can see the

romance, history, physics, chemistry,
of firing a gun...when your finger is onthe trigger, you're between the potential life and death of a living breathing being....either that or the total inihalation (spelling, sorry) of a coke can

In combat however, I prefer the romance of hand to hand combat...preferably watching a big, strong man do it at that

Uh, actually that was pretty funny in a way....and actually a very deep statement.

But I am getting really fed up with damned guys who stalk. Romantic pursuit, done in a gentlemanly fashion, gets tremendous result. Much worth tremendous effort. Creative winning of a good mate, takes effort, romance, WORK, tenderness and devotion. Letters, bared emotion. Building things...

As for the other assholes, I would like to see them WIPED.

I think a big part of it (I know it is for me) is getting to use and be known by a different name, one you put thought into (sometimes) and picked out just for youself.

My handle is actually a nickname for my cat, Lucky. He's very long, almost ferret-like, and when he walks (especially over my keyboard, which is often), he reminds me of that slinky-dog-toy-thing from "ToyStory" (Woody's dog/friend, named Slink). Slinkycat looks weird - like you might pronounce the "c" like an "s" - so I used a "k" instead. Every other handle I came up with for myself seemed to be taken, so when Lucky came slinking over the keyboard again, inspiration struck (and, apparently, stuck, since I've been using this handle for like 4 years).

How did she get the name Jess out of Justine? (You're thinking)
Well my best friends Dad calls me Jess-tina. So my best friend's always called me Jess. And I've just gone by Jess my whole life. I've known her since she was born, I'm a year older. I get SOO mad when sub teachers read my name off the chart. I'm like 'My name's JESS didn't you get the memo. PEOPLE in this class have been calling me Jess for half an hour, where have you been?!' I don't know. I hate it.
