breeding axy's is easy as long as you have the right water conditions .... eg TEMP, Ph
and most of all axy's dont like light much

Message: well the uberegg is back...the good news is that when I came home from work last night I has a tank full of axy eggs although one of the larger feeder fish had made a meal out of most of them i managed to revover about 120 eggs....so in two weeks or so I should have to many axys and will need homes for them..

Message: Breeding them would be cool and all but if there is like 120 of the little dudes that's gonna be so many I wouldn't know what to do with them. I think I'd put them in the local pond and see if we can get an axolotl growth going. I don't have even 1 yet but am close to it, but my tank would fit a max of 2, 1 comfortably though not 122.

Message: NO NO NO NO NO NO!!!!! NEVER release axolotls into lakes, ponds rivers etc they become an exotic pest not unlike a cane toad or carp or fox etc...not only this they can spread disease to native frogs, eat local tadpoles + fish etc the can f#%k local eco systems. Also it is not leagle, there are heavy fines for doing this. Sorry to be so agro Robbie but this should never be done.I would rather give them to homes or aquariums rather than release them...or as a very last resort kill them

NEVER EVER even joke about this ......
it ppl who do this type of thing that led to the carp problem we have today that is not even funny man if anyone is ever faced with this problem all you need to do is Sell them off to pet shops or give them away to someone who can look after that kind of quantity of axolotls......
it can even lead to it becomming illegal to keep them all togeter !!!
wich is what has happened to the so called little harmless Mosquito fish its now a huge pest in farmers dams and water ways now it is illegal to even keep them as pets in most states i know it is here in victoria.....
just my thoughts .......

Message: Spawn I cant stop looking at the photo of your 7ft tank its axy heaven. With your larger tanks outside are they exposed to the weather? please post some more photos of your set up.
all of my axy eggs are black is this right?..the mother is black the father is white/pinkish(not albino) Should I be expecting all the offspring to be black? If your breeding so many axys whats the most unique colour you have bred or come accross?...and a photo would be good

Message: thanx for the info Spawn...yes I too have seen a picture of a blue one many years ago in the weekend supplement in "The Age" probably in the very early 90's. It was for sale in a pet shop in south yarra somewhere.I wonder if it was painted or injected with a blue dye like some of those dodgy fish you see in aquariums sometimes? If not how does the blue occur? from a yellow + green parents?

Message: THINK small
For a real good start to raising the young read here "and read the next section aswell"
http://axolotl.caudata.org/rearing_1.htm
Parents should be removed form the tank after spawning and young raised on live food. Newly hatched brine shrimp or sifted water fleas (Daphnia) are quite suitable at first. Later on they will take live aquatic ?black? worms (tubifex).

Message: Hey, I've been thinking about breeding mine myself. I think I'm going to have it for about a year first so that it gets used to being here and then maybe get a male later on in the year. I heard its easy to breed them if you have the right water temp and PH level, as well as feeding them the right food. The tricky bit is getting the Axolotl's to be nice to each other. Normally they will attack and bite each others limb's off. I guess you just have to let them get to know each other for awhile or something. They also have up to 800 eggs, so I guess you should prepare a bigger enough space for all of them. Also the female will lay her eggs in between weeds and stuff, so make shure that there is plenty. Well good luck breeding. Steph
