Two devices emerged on the US market,
Variations of the voice analyser. The advantage of these machines over the
Polygraph lies in their not requiring to be physically attached to the subject
under investigation. The analyser picks up sub-audible tremors in speech
claimed to be characteristic of those telling untruths, and transfers them on to
digital tape.
For the 'Mark II Voice Analyser' it is claimed that accurate results can be
obtained from a recorded voice, live speech, or over a telephone; furthermore,
only three questions are required which take less than ten seconds to ask,
process and evaluate.
A second instrument, the 'Psychological Stress-Evaluator' also functions on the
principle of analysing stress-related components of the human voice. The
hard print-out using a heated, inkless stylus on thermographic paper resembles
the results that appear on polygraph rolls. |
