of course, have always carried the essential tools of their trade with them, and
the 'little black bag' has become synonymous with the doctor calling. It is not
surprising then that the Police Surgeon and the forensic pathologist on call to
the scene of a crime arrive well equipped for the specialist task ahead. What is
surprising is that the 'Murder
Bag', so closely connected in the popular imagination with the investigation
of the violent crime, should have only been 'invented' in 1924. It was one of
Sir Bernard Spilsbury's many lasting contributions to the scientific detection
